The North Cardiff Trails Collective believes in a positive approach out on the trails, to build relationships with other trail users, improve the woodlands for all and to make the trails we have as awesome as possible.
- Be nice, say hi! A smile at other trail users can go a long way to showing that we’re a nice, friendly bunch who enjoy being outdoors as much as everyone else.
- Try to anticipate other trail users. All these woodlands are shared – there could be runners coming up the trails, people sat down on jumps, and even horses on the trail. If this happens, see point one – be nice, say hi.
- Stay in control at all times. It’s your responsibility to avoid crashing, so wear a helmet, ride within your limits, and keep your bike well-maintained.
- Make your presence known to other trail users well in advance. A lot of riders access the trails via shared paths (like the Taff Trail) or bridleways within the woodlands. Use a bell if you’ve got one, otherwise just shout out.
- Offer help where you can, whether it’s to help a stranded biker with technical issues, or a another trail user who may be lost.
- #LeaveAPositiveTrace – if you see litter, pick it up! And definitely don’t leave any yourself, let’s enjoy this natural space the way it should be.
- Ride the established trails – we’re working with landowners to get the best balance of fun trails and sustainability. That means, we need to be careful of where, what and how we build trails.
- On your way to the trails, please obey the Highway Code and the hierarchy of road users (e.g. pedestrians are top)
