Fforest Fawr is owned by Natural Resources Wales. It forms part of a larger native Beech woodland, the most westerly in the UK, along with Garth Woods, Castell Coch and Fforest Ganol.
It’s home to a Sculpture Trail popular with families, dog walkers and trail runners alongside several bridleways with plenty of horse riding.
It’s a great location to for youngsters to get started in mountain biking with a good mix of wide, smooth paths and progressive singletrack.
It can be accessed from various points:
- Through Castell Coch woodlands
- Through Fforest Ganol to the Fforest Fawr Car Park at the top end of the woods
- From Heol-y-Fforest road next to the Forest Cafe
- Via the Taff Trail on the eastern side of Taff’s Well
